THE PALACE OF SALT - But don't lick it!
Palacio de Sal
You must have heard of concrete, brick, sand, wood or steel as a construction material but salt! Yes, you read it right, Salt something which is edible and an essential ingredient for any recipe to add flavor. And that is exactly what Juan Quesada Valda did to add flavor in their guest's experience at his hotel, his innovative idea of building a hotel built entirely from salt as the main raw material is the realization of the Hotel Palacio de Sal. The creation of the hotel in the Salar de Uyuni region in Bolivia dates back to 1998, which over time has been viewed as an absurd idea that eventually paved the way for hundreds of similar "salt hotels" in and around the region of the world.
Palacio de Sal covers 4500 square meters with refined rooms that are equipped with all the comforts of a modern hotel, such as free Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, hot and cold water, central heating and electricity. In a vast expanse of the majestic lobby that rises to invite curious guests, this hotel is truly an inspiration. At present hotel is made up of around 10,000-tonnes of salt that not only forms the walls and floor but parts of the ceiling, furniture and decorative sculpture.
Building materials are scarce around here so the hotel is built entirely from salt. They used over one million 14-inch blocks of solid salt to build the hotel. But don’t lick the walls as this is prohibited, first thing you will no look good licking a wall and second thing, nobody wants their space to have dents made by your licking man!references -
